It goes without saying that the animation is brilliant simply brilliant. Outside of these minor quibbles though, it plays really well and everything moves smooth and slickly. I'm still not sold on the duck/cover thing or the auto-lock-on-aim that randomly picks up someone a mile away while you are trying to hit a guy in front of you, but this might be because I play COD4 a lot and am used to first-person-shooters more than this style of game. After twenty minutes I was unreasonably moaning about the difficulties of getting used to the control but suddenly it was second nature, even if the camera always pointing in the direction of motion (rather than facing) was a bit of a pain while doing really rapid manoeuvres in vehicles or helicopters.

While good though, nobody is actually here for the story if the game-play was poor. Perhaps understandably it goes a bit off the wall towards the end and I never bought Niko's sudden affection for Kate, who was the singularly most unlikeable character in the whole game (which is pretty bad when you consider some of the others), but that misstep aside it is mostly very fluid and engaging (and this "closeness" was just done to spark one of the ending threads). If it were a film then I would be focusing on the plot and in GTA4 the plot is pretty good through - managing to make a story that captures a lot of interacting characters and changes of direction.
#GRAND THEFT AUTO IV CARS MOVIE#
GTA4 starts as a movie which is how it continues, with the missions and various interactions sparking really well done cut-scenes.
